When it comes to interior design and full-home renovations, selecting the right materials is one of the most impactful — and often overwhelming — parts of the process. At Flip Design Studio, we guide our clients through every detail, ensuring that their space is not only beautiful, but also functional, durable, and true to their personal style.
Here’s how we approach material selection with intention, creativity, and confidence:
1. Start with the Foundation: Flooring
Your flooring sets the tone for the entire home. We often recommend engineered white oak for its warmth, versatility, and timeless appeal. It brings just enough natural character into a space without overwhelming it.
For high-traffic or wet areas, large-format porcelain tile is a go-to — offering durability and modern appeal with endless finish options.
Designer tip: Choose flooring that complements your cabinetry tone and wall color to create a cohesive flow.

2. Make Tile Count
From backsplashes to bathrooms, tile is an opportunity to add interest. We love playing with shape, scale, and finish — whether it’s a handmade zellige, elongated hexagon, or terrazzo-inspired porcelain.
A matte finish gives a softer, more natural look, while glossy tiles reflect light and add a polished touch.

3. Layer Your Finishes Thoughtfully
When it comes to hardware, plumbing, and lighting, consistency is key — but that doesn’t mean everything has to match. We often blend finishes like brushed brass, matte black, and warm nickel to add dimension.
The goal is balance: soft against hard, warm against cool, textured against smooth.
Designer tip: Stick to 2–3 finish tones throughout the home for a cohesive, curated feel.
4. Invest Where It Matters
Not every surface has to be high-end — but a few well-placed investments can elevate the entire home. We recommend allocating more budget toward:
Countertops (think quartz, marble, or quartzite)
Cabinetry
Lighting fixtures that double as focal points
These pieces get the most visual attention and use, so quality matters.
